We Serve Communities Across Southern Africa
Build it is proudly South African owned and is a division of the SPAR Group Limited South Africa. Build it was launched in 1985, with 30 largely rural independent retailers in KwaZulu Natal. Expansion grew towards the inland in the 1990's and before long, in 2000, Build it grew to serve all urban and rural communities nationwide. As the network has grown, stores have opened in countries like Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, & Mozambique. We operate on a voluntary trading model of over 10 000 employees across a chain of individually owned stores. We supply quality building material and related hardware at the best possible prices as well as any advice and additional services required to complete any building project.

We Build Communities
In practice, our structure means that our over 400 stores are owner-operated and managed. Stores make decisions about what products and services best cater to their communities and retain and reinvest value at the community level. Own a Build itWe Invest in Community
Our core values of family, entrepreneurship, and passion are at the heart of everything we do. As such, each store is responsible for giving back to the communities who support us. We are especially fond of our youth and we sponsor Under 13 Soccer development in Southern Africa. By nurturing healthy lifestyles through sport, we build a better future for us all. Our contributions to community projects such as school & home renovations are also a key priority of the group.
